This exclusive video presents an incredible array of rare archive footage from the missing stories of Doctor Who- as well as presenting the incredible stories that recount their discovery!

In the 1970', it was common practice to 'junk' programs that were believed to have fulfilled their commercial life, and many Doctor Who stories were believed lost forever.  This video presents clips from episodes found all over the world, from Nigeria to Australia, in bizarre locations ranging from church halls to car-boot sales.

There are also the moments from Doctor Who considered too frightening for Australian audiences... a six minute extract from Galaxy 4: Four Hundred Dawns... pristine film footage from The Daleks' Master Plan... all carefully reconstructed and restored aurally and visually.

The story of the missing years of Doctor Who is possibly the strangest in the show's history...

This video also features, in full, episode three of the Patrick Troughton story THE UNDERWATER MENACE, the only one known to exist for this story.

Additional Notes

  • Probably one of the most anticipated Doctor Who video releases for many years, this tape was part of a special box set contains 2 tapes, a CD, and informational booklet released in the U.K. in 1998.  The first tape contained all of the existing episodes from "The Ice Warriors" along with audio recordings and photographs of episode 2 and 3 linking the missing gaps.   Tape 2 had a special documentary called "The Missing Years" chronicling the search for missing Doctor Who episodes and contains many rare clips from incomplete episodes.  Finally, as a bonus, episode 3 of "The Underwater Menace" rounded out the second videotape.  CBS/Fox did not include "The Missing Years" with "The Ice Warriors" release because of packaging problems.  Now that Warner Home Video has taken over the distribution here in the U.S. "The Missing Years" is now part of a double tape package along with "The Edge of Destruction/Pilot" video release.

  • Some of the major clips included in "The Missing Years" documentary are: "The Daleks' Masterplan" (existing footage from episodes 1, 2, 3, and 4), the infamous "Galaxy Four" clip from episode 1 (approx. 5 minutes long), clips from the regeneration scene in episode 4 of "The Tenth Planet" and subsequent clips from "Power of the Daleks," some behind the scenes filming of "Evil of the Daleks" and "Fury from the Deep," and the Australian Censor footage from "The Smugglers," "The Highlanders," and "Fury from the Deep."

  • Due to a duplication error at WB an older, un-restored version of " Edge of Destruction/The Missing Years" was distributed in October 2000.  Additionally, the first episode of An Unearthly Child was included at the end of the tape instead of the original pilot episode.  The correct version WAS "re-released" in early February 2001 and has the catalog #E1578  instead of #E1497 printed on the back of the tape package.

  • "The Missing Years" will see an updated release on DVD with the Lost in Time box set.

  • The Doctor Who Restoration Team did extensive work on this video release by cleaning up both picture and sound as well as compiling clips for and producing "The Missing Years" documentary.
