The Cybermen: Ruthless, logical and immune to disease, with a disposition as cold as the South Pole where the Doctor first encountered them. From their first appearance on October 18th, 1966, the Cybermen established themselves as firm favorites with Doctor Who viewers everywhere. Not surprisingly they became a familiar adversary throughout the show's history. Now Colin Baker, Doctor No. 6, recalls the early years of the Cybermen terror with interviews, clips and full episodes.

Interviews
Roy Skelton recalls memories of his work on the program over the years as one of the Cybermen voices. Morris Barry, director of several adventures including the recently discovered TOMB OF THE CYBERMEN, reminisces about those early days. Wendy Padbury-Zoe, he astrophysicist companion of Patrick Troughton in the early series - tells of her audition for the part and what working on the program was really like nearly 25 years ago.

Clips
The first appearance of the Cybermen in THE TENTH PLANET (Episode 1), plus their first words in Episode 2.
THE TOMB OF THE CYBERMEN
and
THE INVASION

Plus Four Full Episodes
THE MOONBASE (Episode 2 & 4)
THE WHEEL IN SPACE (Episode 3 & 6)

Additional Notes
cybermenearly_c.jpg (11716 bytes)
  • This video contains 4 rare episodes from two different Troughton/Cybermen adventures.

  • Episodes 2 and 4 from the 4 part adventure "The Moonbase" are included as well as episodes 3 and 6 from the 6 parter "The Wheel in Space."   Additionally, there are some clips from "The Tenth Planet" the first story to feature the Cybermen (and also Hartnell's last story as the Doctor).

  • One of the all time classic fluffing of lines occurs in "Wheel in Space" episode 6 when Troughton mistakenly says "sexual air supply" instead of "sectional air supply."  :)

  • "Wheel in Space" is also noteworthy in that it is the story that introduces the character of Zoe Heriot who would go on to travel with the Doctor until he was forced to regenerate in "The War Games."

  • All of the episodes on this VHS release have since been cleaned up and restored for a DVD release called the Lost in Time collection.
