Missing, presumed dead! Returned to BBC Video after over 20 years.

Aided by his two assistants Jamie and Victoria, the Doctor lands the TARDIS on Telos, last resting place of the infamous Cybermen. There he discovers a band of archeologists on a secret expedition to unearth the reason for his old enemies' extinction.

In the underground shadowy depths, they find the icy tomb. A whole army in hibernation. A threat to no one, if the temperature remains low. But if the traitor in their midst get his way, things could really heat up . . .

Additional Notes

  • Lost for nearly 25 years, all 4 episodes of "Tomb of the Cybermen" were found in Hong Kong in 1992.  The only recovery of complete episodes (let alone complete stories) since then has been the recent find of "The Crusade" episode 1 in 1999.
  • It is the only complete story still existing from season 5.  The only other story that comes close is "The Ice Warriors" where only episodes 2 and 3 out of a total of 6 are missing.  Every other story from season 5 is only represented by one or two episodes, and sometimes none.
  • "Tomb of the Cybermen" is considered a classic among fans.  Additionally, it introduces the Cybermats into the Doctor Who universe.
  • "Tomb of the Cybermen" kicked off the 5th season of Doctor.  It was a defining season for Troughton's era.  It saw the introduction of the Yeti, the Ice Warriors, a soldier named Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart, two Cybermen adventures, and an attack of deadly seaweed.  One of the most consistently high quality seasons ever produced, sadly very little of it actually exists on video.
  • This story is also available on DVD along with a large amount of extra features.
  • Some controversy was stirred up at the graphic (at the time) death of a Cyberman as foam oozes out of its chest unit.  Of course, such a scene today would barely get a glance by censors.
