The Ice Warriors

AD 3000.  The Earth is locked in a second Ice Age.  With the landscape frozen solid, the Doctor and his companions from the TARDIS seek refuge at a science station where an ionizer battles the big freeze.  But after a perfectly preserved body is found embedded in the ice, the battle against the cold turns into a war of the worlds.   For the frozen being is Varga, leader of the Martian Ice Warriors, who came to Earth during its prehistoric Ice Age.  And once Varga frees the rest of his battalion from the ice, they will resume their mission: total conquest of Earth.  Now the Doctor must find a way to put Varga's plans in the deep freeze for good.

• Probably one of the most anticipated Doctor Who video releases for many years, this special box set contains 1 tape, a CD, and informational booklet.  The video tape contains all of the existing episodes from "The Ice Warriors" along with audio recordings and photographs of episode 2 and 3 linking the missing gaps.   

• The U.K. release had a second tape containing a special documentary called "The Missing Years" chronicling the search for missing Doctor Who episodes and contains many rare clips from incomplete episodes.  Finally, as a bonus, episode 3 of "The Underwater Menace" rounds out the second videotape.  "The Missing Years" was not included in the U.S. release, however, it was included (for some unknown reason) in the Hartnell story "The Edge of Destruction." 

• The audio recording of episodes 2 and 3 are included on a CD with the release.  No narration is included (as with other "missing episode" CD releases.

• Because of the inclusion of the CD and booklet, this release is enclosed in a "clamshell" style box rather than the usual cardboard one.

• The 4 existing episodes were discovered in 1988 along with another film container marked "Fury from the Deep."  Sadly, however, the "Fury" tin was empty.

• The Doctor Who Restoration Team did extensive work on this video release by cleaning up both picture and sound as well as compiling clips for the "mini-telesnap" links.
