The Dominators, self-acclaimed masters of the ten galaxies, and their deadly robots the Quarks, arrive on the planet Dulkis with cruel and evil intentions as the Doctor and his friends touch down for a peaceful holiday.  Life is about to change dramatically for the pacifist Dulcians who, with no weapons on their planet, soon become enslaved to the Dominators.

The fight is on! The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe join a handful of determined Dulcians bent on outwitting the Quarks and struggling to escape the violent brutality of the Dominators. But the whole planet is doomed to become a mass of radioactive material - fuel for the enemy's invasion fleet whose war mission will spread even to Earth unless the Doctor can devise an infallible plan.

Additional Notes

  • After the character of Zoe decided to join the TARDIS crew the Doctor showed her an example of what was in store for her using the TARDIS scanner and his own mental projection.  This was all in aid for setting up a repeat showing of "Evil of the Daleks" (repeating shows was not common to the BBC at that time).  There are a few references to this when the Doctor and Zoe first exit the TARDIS.
  • Originally set as 6 episodes, it was cut down to 5 when it became obvious that the story couldn't be sustained that long.  As a result, the "extra" episode was tacked onto the beginning of "The Mind Robber" (which was originally intended as a 4 parter).
  • Watch the Quarks carefully.  At times the operators faces are visible and at other times so are their arms.
  • Costuming ran amok on this story.  It is painfully obvious for many of the female characters.  They continuously have a difficult time keeping their costumes from unzipping, riding up over their waists, or even falling apart on camera!
  • Apparently the existing copies of "The Dominators" were edited some time ago during thier overseas sales.  Sometimes some of the more violent scenes were removed by censors in that country.  The discovery of some of these "censor clips" in New Zealand and Australia means that if/when "The Dominators" is released on DVD, it could have those sections re-instated for a more complete version.  2 seconds can make all the difference... right... anyone?
