When the TARDIS materializes in the shadows of London's soaring Post Office Tower, the Doctor senses a strange, evil energy in the air. The mystery of its origins only deepens when he finds a driven professor and a super computer, WOTAN, occupying a suite high atop the tower. With the computer about to be connected to a worldwide network, the discovery of a warehouse filled with deadly robots finally makes the puzzle----and its horrific implications---chillingly clear.

This special video release features footage not seen since the episode's first airing. thought to be lost forever, it has been painstakingly restored to original broadcast quality.

  • A short clip from the children's program "Blue Peter" is included at the beginning of the tape.  In the segment, clips of "The War Machines" are shown and ultimately one of the War Machines makes its debut, knocking over some empty cardboard boxes.

  • This is the last "complete" Hartnell story, and has all the hallmarks of a good U.N.I.T. storyline which would be used later in the program during the 70's.

  • This story sees the abrupt departure of Dodo and the introduction of two new companions Ben and Polly.

  • The Doctor Who Restoration Team did extensive work on this video release by cleaning up both picture and sound as well as returning lost footage from the Australian Censor Clips.

  • This is the first story from the black and white era to be restored by the Doctor Who Restoration Team.  Over the years this team has made its mark by restoring episodes from the Hartnell and Troughton eras.
