Additional Notes
  • This is David Tennant's final stint as Doctor Who.  He finishes out with three full seasons, and a series of specials to round out his tenure.

  • Also departing at the end of the specials are much of the creative team including head writer and executive producer Russell T. Davies.

  • Old returning enemies include the Cybermen ("The Next Doctor"), and the Master ("The End of Time Parts One and Two).

  • Old friends returning include Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate), and her grandfather Wilf Mott (Bernard Cribbins) and the Ood.

  • Starting with "The Waters of Mars", Doctor Who has now begun filming in high definition.  This is the first time that the program will be available in high definition Blu Ray.

  • For the Blu-Ray release, "The Next Doctor" (which was shot in standard definition), has been upconverted to 1080i.

  • Each of the specials are also available separately on both DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as a complete specials box set.

  • Fans of the series have labeled 2009 as "the gap year".  Four specials (five if you consider the two parts of "The End of Time" as separate) were produced during this gap year while the old production team wound down and the new one assumed the reigns for the fifth full season.

  • Taking over the role of the Doctor is Matt Smith, while long time Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat is assuming the role of head writer/executive producer.

  • Highlight the text below for spoiler information

  • The Doctor's own race, the Time Lords, return for "The End of Time", and  some of the back story of the Time War is revealed.

  • Watch for guest appearances by many familiar faces near the end of "The End of Time Part Two".

  • Oh, and by the way... the Doctor regenerates at the end of the last special!  ;)
