Additional Notes
  • This is David Tennant's second series as Doctor Who.

  • Freema Agyeman joins the cast as new companion Martha Jones, a medical student introduced in "Smith and Jones".

  • Included in this release are all 13 episodes from the third series, along with the Christmas special entitled "The Runaway Bride."

  • Returning characters in this series include the Daleks, the Face of Boe, Novice Hame, the Macra, and Captain Jack Harkness.

  • Captain Jack appears in the final 3 episodes of this series.

  • The last few moments of the final episode in this series link to the Christmas 2007 episode entitled "Voyage of the Damned."  This episode would likely comprise the beginning of a fourth series box set.

  • The format of this new series is somewhat different from the original (or "classic" series).  Episodes are now approximately 45 minutes and usually are self contained stories - i.e. each story has a resolution by the end of the episode.

  • Just as in the previous two seasons, there were essentially, 7 single episode stories and 2 two episode stories ("Daleks in Manhattan"/"Evolution of the Daleks", "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood", and the series 3 part finale "Utopia"/"The Sound of Drums"/"Last of the Time Lords").

  • Just as with the first two series, the third has met with both critical acclaim as well as strong ratings in the U.K.

  • While there is much that is new about this series, the same spirit that was apparent in the original series is very much alive here too.

  • With the success of Doctor Who in North America, the release of season boxsets of these new series is much more stable and certain.

Highlight the text below for spoiler information

  • Classic Doctor Who villain, and fellow Time Lord - The Master - returns in "Utopia" only to regenerate and continue in the final two episodes "The Sound of Drums" and "Last of the Time Lords".

  • Freema Agyeman (Martha) leaves at the end of the series, but will be returning again in Series 4.
