DVD Features
  • The Tin Men and the Witch:
A 25 minute documentary on the making of "Revenge of the Cybermen" including interviews with both cast and crew.

  • Location Report:
While on location at Wookey Hole filming "Revenge of the Cybermen" Tom Baker was interviewed by BBC News about his new role as Doctor Who (this was even before his first episode had premiered).  It is a short 6 minute clip, but it does show some interesting insights into Baker's early approach to Doctor Who.  This featurette also appeared on the DVD release of "The Ark in Space".

  • Cheques, Lies, and Videotape:

A 30 minute featurette that delves into the very 1980s/90s fan ritual of tape trading as a way of viewing old episodes not then available for retail sale.

  • Photo Gallery:
Once again we are treated to many rare production stills and quite a few behind the scenes ones as well.

  • Information Text:
Lots of trivia and tidbits of Whovian detail are provided.  The text appears intermittently along the bottom of the screen and is written by members of the Doctor Who Restoration Team.

  • Radio Times Listings:
Accessible from any computer with a DVD drive, a PDF of some of the original Radio Times press clippings.

  • Audio Options:
Audio commentary is provided by Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith), David Collings (Vorus), and Philip Hinchcliffe (producer)

Additional Notes
  • "Revenge of the Cybermen" marks the return of the Cybermen to Doctor Who after a 6 year absence.
  • This story also establishes that gold is toxic to the Cybermen.

  • "Revenge of the Cybermen" was the very first story ever released on VHS (all the way back in 1986).

  • For North American fans, this release will be the first time that "Revenge of the Cybermen" has been available in an unedited format.  Because it was the first story every released in the early days of the VHS range, the policy at that time was to edit the episodes together into one long omnibus movie format rather than in an unedited episodic format.  This DVD release solves that problem.
  • David Collings (Vorus) makes his first of three memorable appearances in Doctor Who.  He would return two years later for the classic Tom Baker adventure "The Robots of Death."  Six more years would pass before his third and final guest spot as Mawdryn in the Peter Davison story "Mawdryn Undead."
  • The part of Lester is played by William Marlowe.  Marlowe's only other appearance was in the 1971 Pertwee adventure "The Mind of Evil."

  • And while we're at it, you may also recognize the actor playing Tyrum.  That's versatile actor Kevin Stoney.  Stoney appeared in the 1965 classic "The Daleks' Masterplan" as the evil Mavic Chen.  He played the part of the villainous Tobias Vaughn in the Patrick Troughton story "The Invasion".  "Revenge of the Cybermen marks Stoney's final appearance on Doctor Who.
