Second Doctor Patrick Troughton faces the return of the emotionless Cybermen in this exclusive recording of a "lost" television adventure, with linking narration by Frazer Hines.

"There are some corners of the universe which have bred the most terrible things...they must be fought." --The Doctor

In 2070 Earth's weather is controlled by the Gravitron device based on the Moon and manned by an international team of experts.  When the TARDIS deposits the Doctor and his companions on the zero-gravity surface, they discover the base in the grip of a plague epidemic which is drastically reducing the personnel.

The Doctor's curiosity is aroused by the mysterious infection.  With the base's own medic himself incapacitated, the time traveler offers his services to the ailing crew.  Can he pinpoint the source of contamination before time runs out?  Jamie, meanwhile, is recovering in the Sick Bay from a blow to the head.  In his delirium, can that really be the Phantom Piper come to haunt him - or is it something far more deadly?

Soon an invasion force from Mondas descends, its aim to take control of the Gravitron and decimate Earth's population with waves of extreme weather.  All remaining humans will be converted to the Cyber race...

Additional Notes
  • The Moonbase was the second story to feature the Cybermen, who appeared early in the same season in "The Tenth Planet."
  • The Moonbase also boasted some impressive sets and special effects for its time.
  • The Moonbase has faired better than many other Doctor Who stories from the 1960's.  Episodes 2 and 4 still exist and were released on video here in the U.S. on the "Cybermen: The Early Years" tape.

  • Both the existing episodes (2 and 4) as well as the audio recordings of the missing episodes (1 and 3) are available on the Lost in Time DVD boxset.  The two missing episodes included on the DVD do not have the narration included as they do on this audio release.
  • The audio recording of this story was done by Graham Strong using home audio equipment.
