Patrick Troughton's Doctor encounters the Cybermen in London in this classic soundtrack adventure, narrated by Frazer Hines.

"We must destroy life on Earth completely.  Every living being."

Arriving on Earth in 1975, the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe discover that the component manufacturers International Electromatics has a vice-like grip on the world's technology.  When he encounters the firm's company director, the Doctor realises that there is something very odd about Tobias Vaughan...

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart is also aware of unusual activity within International Electromatics, and before long UNIT has the help of the Doctor in its investigations.

Vaughan is in fact in alliance with the Cybermen, and together they are masterminding an aggressive invasion of Earth.  The ubiquitous IE technology is set to paralyse the planet's population, whilst the sewers of London are being used as a refuge in which the Cyber forces are massing, ready to burst out upon an unsuspecting world.

If the Doctor and his friends are to defeat both Vaughan and the invasion, they must risk life and limb in an adventure of epic proportions.

In an exclusive bonus interview, Frazier Hines - who also narrates this soundtrack adventure - recalls his experiences of playing Jamie in Doctor Who.

Additional Notes
  • "The Invasion" is an 8 part story with only 6 remaining episodes in existence.   Episodes 1 and 4 are still missing (although they DO exist as off air audio recordings).  This release contains the audio recordings of all 8 episodes from the story.

  • Frazer Hines once again supplies the linking narration for this release.

  • A bonus 16 minute interview with Frazer Hines is also included at the end of the second disc.
  • This story is the very first U.N.I.T. story ever done.  The character of the Brigadier had appeared the previous year, but as Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart.  At the time he was part of the British Army and helped the Doctor defeat the Great Intelligence in "The Web of Fear."  Apparently, after that incident, U.N.I.T. (United Nations Intelligence Taskforce) was formed and the Brigadier signed on.
  • This story served as a test for what would later become a standard of the Pertwee era, Earth/U.N.I.T. based stories.

  • Although I'm sure it is tame by today's standards, Kevin Stoney gave a very sadistic and abusive (and effective) performance as Tobias Vaughn.

  • A VHS release of this story occurred several years ago and features all of the existing episodes with a very brief linking narration provided by actor Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier).

  • In it's early planning stages it was thought that, along with the Brigadier, Professor Travers and his daughter Anne would make a return appearance (having last been seen in the previous season's story "The Web of Fear").  However, when these plans didn't pan out, the characters were changed to that of Professor Watkins and his niece Isobel.

  • This release is packaged as part of the "Cybermen" tin.  Included with "The Invasion" is the first ever Cybermen story ("The Tenth Planet").  That story happens to also be the final Hartnell story (and thus the first regeneration).

  • As a special bonus, an additional CD is included with the audio recordings of  "The Origins of the Cybermen" written and read by David Banks who played the Cyberleader throughout the 1980s.

  • The audio recording of this story was done separately by David Butler, Rohan Byrnes, Richard Freeland and David Holman using their own home audio equipment.

  • Mark Ayres, of the Doctor Who Restoration Team, did extensive work on this audio release by digitally remastering these recordings.
