Patrick Troughton battles to save mankind in this classic six-part lost television adventure, with linking narration by Frazer Hines.

"It's down there.  In the darkness.  In the pipeline.  Waiting."

The TARDIS brings the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria to the south coast of present...day Earth. Something nasty is lurking in the gas pipelines of the North Sea, and before long the nearby refinery is under attack.

Landing on a foam...covered beach, the travelers are at first mistaken for saboteurs. A number of the refinery personnel have been behaving strangely, and the base chief, Robson, is showing serious signs of stress. Meanwhile Maggie Harris, having been stung by a mysterious frond of sea vegetation, is menaced by the sinister engineers Oak and Quill.

As sentient foam and weed combine to frightening effect, it soon becomes clear that the danger emanates from beneath the sea. Can that really be a heartbeat coming from deep inside the refinery pipes? Will the Doctor and his friends be in time to prevent an entire take...over of Earth - and will they all escape with their lives?

First broadcast in 1968, Fury from the Deep is the last story to feature Deborah Watling as the Doctor's companion Victoria. Long missing from the television archives, it is regarded as a classic adventure from the era of the Second Doctor.

Additional Notes
  • "Fury from the Deep" marks the departure of popular companion Victoria Waterfield.
  • No complete episodes from this story exist.  There are several short clips that exist due to Australian censors editing the more "violent" scenes out of this story in the early 1970's.  The most infamous of these clips involves Mr. Oak and Mr. Quill attacking Maggie Harris with marsh gas escaping from their gaping mouths.
  • Additionally, several short clips exist from episode 6.  These clips were alternate takes filmed during the climatic scenes.  These sequences exist without sound.
  • A third set of clips exist due to a production member filming some of the sequences from episode 6 with his own home movie equipment.  These sequences exist without sound.

  • All of these existing clips are included on the DVD missing episode release, Lost in Time.
  • The Doctor's trusty sonic screwdriver makes its very first appearance in episode 1.
  • An audio release of this story was available in the early 1990's.  The existing audio of the time was of a much lower quality than the ones used for this release.  At the time it was narrated by Tom Baker (Doctor #4).  For this updated release, Frazer Hines narrates the story instead.
  • Listen for the appearance of John Abineri (playing the part of Van Lutyens).  He is a regular to Doctor Who.  He appeared as General Carrington in "The Ambassadors of Death" and as the Swampy leader Ranquin in the Tom Baker story "The Power of Kroll."

  • As an added bonus, the final track on the second disc has the audio trailer for the next story, "The Wheel in Space."

  • The audio recording of this story was done separately by Graham Strong and David Butler using home audio equipment.
  • Mark Ayres, of the Doctor Who Restoration Team, did extensive work on this audio release by digitally remastering these audio recordings.
