Cover Blurb

Patrick Troughton witnesses 'the final end' of the Daleks in this exclusive recording of a classic 'lost' BBC Television adventure with linking narration by Frazer Hines.

"There is only one form of life that matters.  Dalek life!"

The TARDIS has been stolen from Gatwick Airport, and the Doctor and Jamie are hot on its trail.  A series of cryptic clues lead them to an antiques shop owned by Edward Waterfield, and there it becomes clear that an elaborate tap has been laid for them - but by whom, and for what purpose?  Only a journey back in time to the late 1860's will reveal the answer...

The Daleks are in search of the Human Factor, something which they believe will help their quest for universal domination.  In order to achieve their aim they need the Doctor's help - and the use o his TARDIS.  Worried that his old friend may be turning traitor, Jamie discovers that he too is part of the plan - in the course of which he encounters Victoria Waterfield, a young woman who is to play a large part in his and the Doctor's life.

The Daleks' plan has far-reaching consequences, leading to conflict and destruction of astonishing proportions.  And when the TARDIS arrives on the battlefield  planet of Skaro, the scene is set for an encounter between the Doctor and the malevolent Emperor Dalek...

Fazer Hines, who plays Jamie in the story, narrates the classic story from 1967, of which all but one episode is now missing from the television archives.

Additional Notes
  • The penultimate Dalek story!  The Dalek story to end all Dalek stories!  This story is a nice departure from other typical Dalek stories up until that point in the series as the Daleks search for the human factor (supposedly to improve themselves).
  • This adventure also serves as the introductory story for new companion Victoria Waterfield.  She joins the TARDIS crew by the end of the 7th episode when her father... well I don't want to spoil the ending.
  • "The Evil of the Daleks" marks the end of the 4th season of Doctor Who and the end of Patrick Troughton's very successful first year in the title role.
  • Another variation in this story is the major rift that occurs between Jamie and the Doctor as it appears to Jamie that the Doctor is cooperating with the Daleks.  At one point Jamie declares that he and the Doctor are finished and that he wants to leave the Doctor.
  • In a move seldom used on BBC television, this story was re-transmitted at the end of the 5th season as a way to bridge the gap between that season and the next one.  A small bit of extra narration by Troughton was used to introduce the audience to the repeat adventure.

  • A much improved and restored version of the only existing episode (two) is available on DVD in the boxset Lost in Time.

  • Several bonus clips are included at the end of episode 7 on the third disc.  Among them are sound effects montages from the climactic battle as well as Dalek voice sessions and the BBC1 repeat opening minutes (where the Doctor explains to Zoe what is happening).

  • "The Evil of the Daleks" was originally released on audio tape in the early 80's with linking narration by Tom Baker (Doctor #4).  At that time the audio recordings held by the BBC were of low quality.  Subsequently, the original release is garbled and hard to listen to.  This release will utilize far superior audio recordings and more than likely newly recorded narration by another actor (due mainly to the fact that the original Baker narration recordings were never kept--ironic, eh?).

  • This release was part of a special anniversary "Dalek Tin."  In it you received both "The Power of the Daleks" as well as the top notch "Evil of the Daleks" plus a special bonus disc – My Life as a Dalek, presented by Mark Gatiss.  Only producing a limited number, this tin is now quite difficult (but not impossible) to come by.  Fortunately, the individual stories are still available.

  • The audio recording of this story was done separately by Graham Strong and David Butler using their own home audio equipment.
